Review: Sprouts Farmers Market
When I’m looking for gluten-free or dairy-free foods, I go out of my way to shop at Sprouts Farmers Market. The store on Bee Caves Road is always bright and immaculately clean. The aisles are wide and the store feels easy to navigate. But I do wish that the signage on aisles were larger; the typeface is far too small and difficult to read. Sprouts has an enourmous selection of gluten-free,...

Distant Observations
If alien beings are monitoring American television transmissions, those beings will no doubt conclude that, based on total hours of media coverage, the most important people in our society are dead white girls.

The Green Pineapple
After years of development hell, The Green Hornet is finally coming to the big screen starring… SETH ROGEN? As The Green Hornet himself, Britt Reid? Apparently it was because of Rogen’s attachment to the project that a big studio (Sony) finally put its full weight behind the production. Kudos to Seth Rogen for using his star power to bring Green Hornet to the screen. But...

What If a Google Engineer Were Stuck in 1994?
Dear Mr. Switkin, You don’t know me, and I don’t know you, but your image is now out there in a YouTube video being seen by millions, so whether you like it or not, people everywhere will, in a way, be looking to you for guidance. In both obvious and subtle ways. So I ask for your patience and for you to consider my unsolicited but sincerely heart-felt advice. You are obviously...

What if the iPod were designed for 1977?
These images are so fucking brilliant. The design aesthetic is spot-on (trust me, I actually REMEMBER 1977), and the ad copy is just plain hilarious.

National Geographic Used To Be Cool. What...
Dear National Geographic Channel, I have noticed that the most amazing, informative and inspiring nature documentaries in recent years (Planet Earth, Life) have been produced not by your network, but instead by the Discovery Channel and BBC. I want to know why the NatGeo channel has fallen so far behind Discovery networks in producing innovative, stimulating nature documentaries. Here’s an...

Twitter
Sis: Why does anyone need Twitter when texting already limits one to 160 characters?
Me: Because Twitter sends your updates (which can be read via web, desktop or phone) en masse to all your subscribers at once.
Sis: So now we all have entourages? This is not healthy.

Rise of the Tablog
artificialrobot: Very interesting read about blogs and their myriad misuse. I like the Q&A at the end of what service or type of service you should be using based on the purpose of your content. “If you are trying to share links, keep a diary, or post notebook-style tipbits, use a simple service that you’ll update, like Posterous, Tumblr, Soup, or Twitter.” Tumblr is the perfect format...

O-Phone
I had been considering getting a new phone for a while, and now I’ve got the new Android/Google phone at $100 off retail thanks to my close personal friend Oprah Winfrey. (But because my phone number is in the process of transferring to T-Mobile, I have NO phone/text service at the moment.)
